There was a great turn out for the February Campout. Barb and Dick Yeager were the Wagonmasters with 11 rigs showing up. Attending were Beesleys, Georges, Waldmanns, Cooks, Dixon, Fullers/Bob Stockel, Hewitts, Hubers, Mitchell/with friend Helen, Patlas, and Sawyers. Driving out on Saturday were Peggy and Bob Marquarot and Milton Edwards and his brother, Robert. The Sunsites Community center held their usual money makers by having a steak fry on Friday evening and also providing a big breakfast on Saturday morning. Members were off to see the Sandhill Cranes at the Whitewater Draw. They were also treated to a flock of Snow Geese and to a Grey Horned Owl. There was a short business meeting on Saturday afternoon. The Yeagers treated the group to deep fried Turkey with the club members providing potluck dishes to round out the meal. Saturday evening two squares danced to our caller, Bill George. Sunday morning was our usual breakfast potluck. Members said their farewells and were off after three days of beautiful weather.

I am not sure who to give credit to for this picture, but it was taken in an earlier year of the Sandhill Cranes……

I wish to thank Marian and George Beesley and Dave and Maria Waldmann for the information I received to help me create this newsletter.

Little Old Lady and Speeding Ticket

An older lady gets pulled over for speeding

Older woman “Is there a problem, Officer”
Officer: “Ma’am, you were speeding”
Older woman: “Oh, I see”
Officer: “Can I see your license please?”
Older woman: I’d give it to you, but I don’t have one.”
Officer: “Don’t have one?”
Older women: “Lost it four years ago for drunk driving.”
Officer: “I see…Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?”
Older woman: “I can’t do that.”
Officer: “Why not?”
Older woman: “I stole this car.”
Officer: “Stole it?”
Older woman: “Yes and killed and hacked up the owner.”
Officer: “You WHAT?”
Older woman: “His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see.”
The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun……….
Officer 2: “Ma’am, could you step out of your vehicle!” The woman steps out of her vehicle.
Older woman: “Is there a problem?”
Officer 2: “One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner.”
Older women: “Murdered the owner???”
Officer 2: “Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car?”
The woman opens the trunk, revealing but an empty trunk.
Officer 2: “Is this your car, ma’am?”
Older woman: “Yes, here are the registration papers.”
The officer is quite stunned.
Officer 2: “One of my officers claims that you do not have a driver’s license.”
The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer. The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled.
Officer 2: “Thank you ma’am, one of my officers told me you didn’t have a license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner.”
Older woman: “Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too!!”

January 11-13 we camped at Cochise Terrace RV Park in Benson, AZ. We had a total of 14 Rigs. Members attending were Ballengers, Cooks, DeLongs, Dixon, Hewitts, Voss/Capuano, Wakefield, Waldmann, Yauchs, and Yeagers with Winkenwerders as drive-ins. Our club was blessed to introduce THREE new couples who camped with us and joined the OPSW: Clayton and Jean Messelt; Ruth and Dan Dickens; and Peggy and Bob Marquart.

We are always happy to welcome Joyce and Don McNair from Prescott Valley as guests. Friday evening our Wagonmasters, Ballengers and Yauchs, provided a chili supper. It was delicious. Thank You!! Bill George, our caller, was ill so Cel Potter called our Friday evening square dance. Saturday morning Maria Waldmann demonstrated how to make 10 minute Peanut Brittle in your microwave oven. The Peanut Brittle was so good it did not last long. Noon time was our usual Potluck with our business meeting to follow. Saturday evening, 7:00 – 9:30, we attended the Cavern Promenaders “All Callers Dance”, organized by Cel Potter. Sunday morning we said our good-byes after a wonderful Potluck Breakfast. On February 8-10 we will be off in our RVs to camp at the Sr. Center at Sunsites, AZ. This is an opportunity to see the Sandhill Cranes or visit a dairy farm.

Members please be thinking about some possible ways to make a little money for our club. Our treasury has dropped this past year due to our generosity and some unexpected expenditures. We do the brown bag auction in May, but this will not raise enough money. Bring your ideas to the February campout.

SUNDAY CLOTHES

A little boy was walking down a dirt road after
church one Sunday afternoon when he came to a
crossroads where he met a little girl coming from
the other direction.

“Hello,” said the little boy

“Hi,” replied the little girl.

“Where are you going?” asked the little boy.

“I've been to church this morning and I'm on
my way home,'” answered the little girl.

“I'm also on my way home from church. Which
church do you go to?” asked the little boy.

“I go to the Baptist church back down the road,”
replied the little girl. “'What about you? “

“I go to the Methodist church back at the top
of the hill,” replied the little boy.

They discover that they are both going the same
way so they decided that they'd walk together.

They came to a low spot in the road where spring
rains had partially flooded the road, so there
was no way that they could get across to the
other side without getting wet.

“If I get my new Sunday dress wet, my Mom's going
to skin me alive,” said the little girl.

“My Mom will tan my hide, too, if I get my new
Sunday suit wet,” replied the little boy.

“I tell you what I think I'll do,” said the little
girl. “I'm gonna pull off all my clothes and hold
them over my head and wade across.”

“That's a good idea,” replied the little boy.
“I'm going to do the same thing with my suit.”

So they both undressed and waded across to the
other side without getting their clothes wet.
They were standing there in the sun waiting to
drip dry before putting their clothes back on,
when the little boy finally remarked

“You know, I never realized before just how much
difference there really is between a BAPTIST and
a METHODIST!!!

In December we had a wonderful campout at St David, AZ. We wish to thank John and Julie Patla and Julius and Eleanor Huber along with their granddaughter, Melissa Bales for their hard work as wagonmasters. Rigs at the campout were: Georges, Hewitts, Beesleys, Cooks, Waldmanns, Sawyers, Patlas, Hubers/Melissa, Voss/Capuano, Dixon, Fullers/Bob Stockel , and Winkenwerders. Guests driving out for dinner and our meeting were: Yauchs, Ballengers and Trokeys. Thirty-three members and guests were served a delicious turkey dinner family style. The staff at the Monastery always makes our Christmas campout very special. We brought toys to be donated to the Monastery for their orphanage and many gave a money donation for the Food Bank of Tucson. Now it is time for us to look toward 2008. We have a busy camping schedule coming. January 11-13 we will camp at Cochise Terrace RV Park in Benson, AZ. We look forward to dancing on Friday evening with our caller, Bill George. Saturday evening, 7:00 – 9:30, we plan to attend the Cavern Promenaders “All Callers Dance”, which is also being held at Cochise Terrace RV Resort. At our meeting we had installation of officers. There will be a memorial service for Ruth LeMarr on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 pm. The service will be held in the club house at 3003W Broadway, Tucson, AZ. A potluck dinner will follow.

January Diet Poem
Author: Unknown

It was the month after Christmas and all through the house
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
the wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
and the way I'd never said, "No Thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt.
I said to myself, as I only can
"you can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"
So---away with the last of the sour cream dip,
get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
every last bit of food that I like must be banished
till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie----not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome and life is a bore,
but isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I was not at the November campout, I had a great helper in gathering info for this newsletter. There was a good turn-out of rigs on Thursday. Our club had 13 of the total 23 rigs that were there on Friday. In attendance were Ballengers, Beesleys, Cooks, DeLongs, Dixon, Georges, Mitchell, Patlas, Voss/Capuano, Wakefield, Yauchs, Yeagers, Winkenwerder, Fullers, and Stockel. We had a guest rig, Mike and Diane Gilden from Aiken, SC. They are wintering at Voyagers RV Park in Tucson. Mike is a square dance caller who had called for us at the NSDCA National Dance this past July at the Amana Colonies. Mike was a guest caller along with our caller, Bill George for our Friday and Saturday afternoon dances. Friday evening most ate out at Bub’s Grub. Saturday’s potluck was well attended with lots of great food. The Chapter meetings were after the potluck. Wagonmasters: Charlie Mitchell and Mandel Wakefield treated everyone to root beer floats.
The January campout is $23 per night. Friday evening there will be a chili dinner provided by the hosts. If you want to visit the Karchner Caverns you need to make your own reservations. There is also an entrance fee to the park. Bill George will call for our dance on Friday evening and Cel Potter will call on Saturday evening ($10.00 per couple). Ruth DeLong won Split the Pot…………..see you all at the December campout.

Smartest Dog Ever

As a butcher is shooing a dog from his shop, he sees $10 and a note in his mouth, reading: "10 lamb chops, please."
Amazed, he takes the money, puts a bag of chops in the dog's mouth, and quickly closes the shop. Then he follows the dog and watches him wait for a green light, look both ways, and trot across the road to a bus stop. The dog checks the timetable and sits on the bench. When a bus arrives, he walks around to the front and looks at the number, then boards the bus. The butcher follows, dumbstruck.
As the bus travels out into the suburbs, the dog takes in the scenery. After awhile he stands on his back paws to push the "stop" button. The butcher follows him off.
The dog runs up to a house and drops his bag on the stoop. He goes back down the path, takes a big run, and throws himself -Whap!- against the door. He does this again and again. No answer. So he beats his head against a window and runs to the front door and waits. A big guy opens it and starts yelling at the dog.
The butcher runs up screaming at the guy: "What the heck are you doing? This dog's a genius!"
The owner responds, "Genius, my foot. It's the second time this week he's forgotten his key!"
